Truman Elementary kindergarten students are diving into new STEM vocabulary in Miss Beck’s class as they explore the words algorithm and conditional. Students learned that an algorithm is a series of steps used to complete a task, while a conditional is an if/then statement that helps guide decisions or actions.

To bring these concepts to life, students rotated through three interactive centers designed to strengthen their understanding. At the first center, students built Lego mazes and created step-by-step paths for a character to follow. In the second center, they used directional coding tiles to help Awbie navigate through a forest, collecting treasure chests and strawberries along the way. The final center featured an if/then card game, where students practiced identifying conditionals—if the card is red, then the friend with the red marker earns a point; if the card is black, then the friend with the black marker scores.

Throughout each activity, students worked collaboratively with partners, building teamwork skills while developing a strong foundation in early coding and STEM concepts.
