Dear Truman School Parents,

As part of our ongoing commitment to student safety, we will be conducting school-wide evacuation fire drills during the school day. These drills are a regular part of our safety procedures and help ensure that students and staff know exactly what to do in the event of an emergency.

We understand that for our youngest students in Prekindergarten, Kindergarten, and First Grade, fire drills can sometimes feel surprising or even a little scary. Our teachers will take time before the drill to explain what will happen in a calm, age-appropriate way. We will focus on key ideas like listening to the teacher, staying quiet, and walking safely.

As part of our ongoing commitment to student safety, our district’s School Resource Officer, Officer Kwiatkowski, plays an active role in supporting all safety drills and ensuring a secure learning environment. We work together to help students be prepared, not scared, during these important practice sessions.

Additionally, Officer Kwiatkowski will visit our school in October to present a special safety lesson to our students, reinforcing key safety concepts in an age-appropriate and reassuring way.

We encourage you to talk to your child at home as well. You might say something like:

"Sometimes schools practice what to do in case of a fire. It's practice to help everyone stay safe. Your teacher will be there to help you."

Practicing these procedures regularly helps our students feel more confident and prepared. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you for partnering with us to keep our students safe

Warmly,

Julie Clark and Matteo Anello
